I gained my DPhil in electromagnetism ("An eddy current sensor for robot welding") from Oxford University and then worked as a consultant in industry and commerce, doing hardware and software design and build. I was then for 8 years a telecommunications consultant with The DMW Group, working for example on technical architecture design and implementation (e.g. X.500 directory services); running test programmes (e.g. a test centre for X.400 systems); and running procurements on behalf of clients for services such as international Frame Relay, UK-wide private leased circuit networks, LAN implementations, and voice/data cabling procurements. I returned to academia, joining CCSR at Surrey University in August 2000. I have been a Lecturer since March 2005. I am a Chartered Electrical Engineer and member of the UK IET. Personal interests include: gardening and our allotment, walking (coastal, countryside, "mountains" (in the UK sense - what the rest of the world would call big hills)), railways (prototype and model) and cycling. |
