Dr K.Young
who should be contacted for further information about this module.
Announcements
The solutions to the revision questions are now on the webpage which will
help with revision for the test next wedenesday and the exam. Please make
sure that you have a good attempt at the questions before looking at the
solutions as it is by doing that you learn the most.
There are additional Bayesian questions and solutions for section 2 to help
with the Bayesian part of the test on Monday. The test will cover the material up to the end of
where I have lectured to, as
examples of calculating posteriors are included throughout section 2.
Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
The first unassessed coursework is now on the website and also there is a
problem sheet with solutions for you to try.
The course consists of 30 lectures including a tutorial some weeks. This
course changes the way that you think about statistics. It uses
mathematical techniques to derive distributions of parameters, which need
practice to get the ideas across. It is very important that the
assignments, which I will set throughout the course are done as they are
the building blocks of the material that is covered in this course, whether
they are assessed or not. We will also look at some Bayesian decision
theory to show how it can be used in practice.

Assessment
- In addition to the final examination, there will be two class tests
will be taken during the semester. There will be two unassessed assignments set during the course.:
- Test 1 will be taken on Monday 5th March (Week 5)
- Unassessed coursework 2 will be handed in on Monday 26th March (Week 8)
- Class test 2 will be held on Wednesday 2nd May (Week 9) The questions in the
unassessed/tutorial work will help in revising for the test. It is
important that
you attempt these questions independently.
- The class tests will count as 25% of the marks.
- The final examination is worth 75%.
